Retake Italia attend Lords reception for Upshift Movement

Inaugurazione del World Upshift Forum a Londra: Retake Italia alla Camera dei Lord

Il 21 febbraio l’associazione italiana Retake, rappresentata da Alejandra Alfaro Alfieri e Sveva Milano, è stata invitata a Londra per parlare del movimento Retake all’inaugurazione del World Upshift Forum presso la Camera dei Lord. 

 L'iniziativa è stata organizzata da Roger Casale, CEO del World Upshift Movement, nonché ex parlamentare inglese e fondatore di New Europeans, e da Maria Antinori, Presidente del World Upshift Movement (la foto sopra mostra Roger e Maria che accolgono Sveva e Alejandra a Londra prima dell'evento alla Camera dei Lords).

L’evento ha coinvolto figure eccezionali provenienti da tutto il mondo, fra cui: Justina Mutale, eletta Donna Africana dell’anno nel 2012 e fondatrice di un’associazione per l’emancipazione delle donne; il gran maestro taoista Sha, che ha donato al Forum una propria creazione calligrafica che simboleggia i valori del World Upshift Forum; Fionn Ferreira, ricercatore scelto da Forbes fra i 30 più brillanti giovani imprenditori, per una sua invenzione per la rimozione delle microplastiche dai mari. 

 Le retaker Alejandra Alfaro Alfieri e Sveva Milano sono giunte alla Camera dei Lord per portare il messaggio di Retake: «Un piccolo gesto di amore per la propria città può creare una grande rivoluzione, non solo nelle strade delle nostre città, ma soprattutto dentro di noi, nella ritrovata consapevolezza di avere il potere di cambiare le cose». 

Retake è attualmente la realtà più diffusa in Italia impegnata nella cura e valorizzazione dei beni comuni: è nata a Roma nel 2009 grazie allo spirito coraggioso e dinamico della Professoressa Rebecca Spitzmiller che non accettava di arrendersi di fronte al degrado del suo quartiere; negli anni ha poi conquistato migliaia di volontari in tutta Roma che ogni settimana si incontrano per le strade della città per ripulirla dai rifiuti e per prendersi cura dei beni pubblici, identificati dalle loro inconfondibili pettorine blu. 

 Il desiderio di un numero crescente di cittadini di sentirsi protagonisti delle loro città ha raggiunto in pochi anni una diffusione nazionale, giungendo in circa 44 città italiane dal sud al nord. La storia di Retake, questa volta, è arrivata fino a Londra, attirando l’attenzione del World Upshift Movement, il movimento internazionale ispirato dalle opere di Ervin Lazlo, filosofo ungherese considerato uno degli esponenti più avanzati della teoria dei sistemi e nominato due volte per il Nobel per la Pace. 

 Il Forum inaugurato martedì a Londra è una rete globale di attivisti, pensatori e organizzazioni accumunati dal desiderio di cambiare il mondo tramite “il cuore, la testa e le mani”. «Abbiamo davanti a noi una scelta» afferma Ervin Lazlo: «Possiamo scegliere se essere l’ultima generazione sulla terra, oppure la prima di nuove generazioni che abbracciano un nuovo modo di vivere più sostenibile».

 Il World Upshift Forum e Retake saranno di nuovo insieme i primi di ottobre in Liguria, nel Golfo dei Poeti, per una settimana di incontri e attività pensati per incoraggiare dibattiti sulle sfide poste dai conflitti, dal cedimento dei sistemi democratici, dalle migrazioni e dal cambiamento climatico.

Inaugurazione del World Upshift Forum a Londra: Retake Italia alla Camera dei Lord

On 21 February, the Italian association Retake, represented by Alejandra Alfaro Alfieri and Sveva Milano, was invited to London to speak about the Retake movement at the opening of the World Upshift Forum at the House of Lords. 

 The event was organised by Roger Casale, CEO of the World Upshift Organisation, as well as former British MP and founder of New Europeans, and Maria Antinori, President of the World Upshift Movement ( the photo above shows Roger and Maria can be seen above welcoming Sveva and Alejandra to London before the event at the House of Lords)

 The event involved outstanding figures from around the world, including: Justina Mutale, elected African Woman of the Year in 2012 and founder of an association for the emancipation of women; the Taoist Grandmaster Sha, who donated his own calligraphic creation symbolising the values of the World Upshift Forum to the Forum; Fionn Ferreira, a researcher chosen by Forbes as one of the 30 brightest young entrepreneurs, for his invention to remove microplastics from the seas. 

 Retakers Alejandra Alfaro Alfieri and Sveva Milano came to the House of Lords to bring Retake's message: "A small gesture of love for one's city can create a big revolution, not only on the streets of our cities, but above all within ourselves, in the newfound awareness that we have the power to change things".  Retake is currently the most widespread reality in Italy committed to the care and enhancement of the commons: it was born in Rome in 2009 thanks to the courageous and dynamic spirit of Professor Rebecca Spitzmiller, who did not accept to give up in front of the degradation of her neighbourhood; over the years it has then won thousands of volunteers all over Rome who meet every week on the streets of the city to clean it from rubbish and to take care of public goods, identified by their unmistakable blue bibs.   

The desire of a growing number of citizens to feel protagonists of their cities has reached a national spread in just a few years, reaching some 44 Italian cities from south to north. The story of Retake, this time, has reached London, attracting the attention of the World Upshift Movement, the international movement inspired by the works of Ervin Lazlo, a Hungarian philosopher considered one of the most advanced exponents of systems theory and twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.  

 The Forum inaugurated on Tuesday in London is a global network of activists, thinkers and organisations united by the desire to change the world through 'heart, head and hands'. "We have a choice before us," says Ervin Lazlo: "We can choose to be the last generation on earth, or the first of new generations to embrace a new, more sustainable way of living."  

The World Upshift Forum and Retake will be together again in early October in Liguria, in the Gulf of Poets, for a week of meetings and activities designed to encourage debate on the challenges posed by conflict, the breakdown of democratic systems, migration and climate change.
